Headstones with Image: Types, Materials, Costs

A headstone with a photo or image is truly special: It keeps the memory of a loved one alive and provides comfort to those left behind. We explain the design options available to you, the materials you can choose from, and the costs you can expect.

Headstones with Pictures: An Overview of Different Variants

The possibilities in grave design with photos are diverse. The most common ones include:

  • Photo on a Single Grave: Adding a photo of the deceased makes the grave particularly personal. Whether it's a classic portrait or a unique image that captures the personality of the deceased - a photo on the stone turns every grave into a special memorial site.
  • Photo on Companion Graves: Companion graves symbolize a strong and enduring connection between the deceased. This connection becomes even more meaningful with pictures of the loved ones - perhaps even a shared photo that highlights their deep bond?
  • Symbolic Photos: For those who don't want to place a portrait on the headstone, other photos can be chosen. Maybe there was a special place that held great significance for the deceased? Or an item - like their own car? Symbolic photos mainly showcase the individuality of the deceased.

How to Combine Photos on a Headstone

Basically, there are hardly any limits to designing a headstone. Some beautiful ideas include:

  • Heart-shaped Headstone: The heart symbol stands for a deep affection for a loved one. As a headstone, it shows that the love for the deceased endures beyond death. Paired with a unique photo, it transforms the grave into a loving memorial, offering solace to the bereaved.
  • Book-shaped Headstone: Telling the story of a person - that's what book-shaped headstones are about. The portrait represents a chapter in the life of the deceased, a life story that the bereaved can continue to tell and share long after their passing.
  • Headstone with Engraving: Especially personal are headstones adorned with a photo and a custom engraving. Beautiful ideas include quotes that perfectly fit the deceased - or held special significance for them.

Materials and Fixings: An Overview

The selection of materials and options is vast - keeping track of everything can be challenging.

Headstone with Ceramic Photo

Ceramic memorial photos are especially timeless and elegant. They are also highly weather-resistant and require minimal maintenance. The printed images retain their color brilliance for a long period and can be designed with intricate details.

Headstone with Porcelain Photo

Porcelain memorial photos offer a wide range of design options; they are also particularly durable and weather-resistant. Porcelain also allows for high color brilliance and is exceptionally detailed and precise - all without significant maintenance effort.

Photo Engravings: Carving Images into Stone

Stone-engraved memorial images are not only exceptionally detailed, but they also seamlessly conform to the design of the headstone. These so-called photo engravings are timeless, durable, and require minimal maintenance. Perhaps their greatest advantage: Unlike printed memorial images, they do not fade over time.

Memorial Images in Metal

Memorial images made of metal are particularly modern and come in a variety of styles. Even complex and intricate images can be easily transferred onto metal. Additionally, metal is low-maintenance, timeless, and gives a sophisticated touch due to its texture and three-dimensionality.

Attaching a Picture to a Headstone: The Right Adhesive

Attaching memorial images requires a special adhesive. This adhesive is specifically designed for natural stone and is weather-resistant, age-resistant, and UV-resistant. Additionally, it does not cause edge contamination on natural stones and is non-corrosive. To firmly fix the image to the stone, apply the adhesive to the back of the image and position it in the desired location. Then secure it with tape. After a few hours, the adhesive will be fully cured, and the image will be firmly attached to the stone.

Additional Design Option: The Picture Frame

Picture frames for grave images offer an extra way to enhance the visual presentation and impact of photos or images on a gravestone. They can be made from various materials like wood, metal, or stone and add an extra layer of structure to the grave image.

A carefully selected picture frame not only highlights the grave image but also complements the overall design of the gravestone. The choice of frame can depend on personal preferences or the style of the gravestone - from classic and simple to intricately decorated. Another way to emphasize the individuality of the gravestone.

The Cost of a Gravestone with Image

Similar to the gravestone itself, the price of a grave image depends on individual preferences, as well as the size and execution of the crafted decoration. A rough estimate: Usually, the prices for grave images range from 50 to 250€. If you're interested, feel free to contact us at any time. We are happy to provide you with a personalized offer.
