Maintaining a Cremation Headstone
The passage of time does not leave a monument, even one with a sense of eternity, untouched. Depending on the location of the grave and the weather conditions, you will need to clean and polish the headstone sooner or later. To prevent lichens, moss, bird droppings, etc. from permanently settling on the headstone, you should clean it regularly. The longer dirt stays on the stone, the harder it will be to remove it.
What do I need to clean cremation headstones?
Most natural stones can be cleaned with simple household items and tools.
Watering Can: With a watering can, which is usually available on-site, you can moisten the headstone and rinse it off after cleaning.
Brush: For scrubbing the headstone, a simple root brush is recommended. Choose a size or model that you can hold comfortably and firmly. Some elbow grease might be necessary for stubborn dirt.
Cloths and Sponges: With a regular household cloth and/or sponge, you can take care of the fine details. Dust and dirt that haven't settled firmly can be optimally removed this way, and you can give the headstone a final polish after the main cleaning.
Gravestone Cleaner: Gravestone cleaning products are available in household or specialized stores. They are ideal for cleaning headstones as they clean well without damaging the stone. Most of them only need to be sprayed on and allowed to work.
