Single Headstones: Types

Single Headstones with Surround

These single headstones feature a surrounding border that sets the grave apart from its environment. The border can be made of various materials like metal or stone, giving the grave a clear structure. This conveys a sense of tradition and permanence, while also allowing room for personal design.

Single Headstones with Cover

Headstones with a cover, also known as grave slabs, feature a smooth, horizontal surface over the grave. The slab can be adorned with engravings, inscriptions, and symbols — graves exude a simple, modern elegance.

Single Headstones with Cross

The cross as a religious symbol has a long tradition in grave design. Single headstones with a cross, whether as an applied element or as part of the engraving, carry a spiritual significance and express the faith of the deceased. This combines remembrance with dedication.

Modern Single Headstones

Modern, contemporary headstones are becoming increasingly popular. Here, unconventional materials like glass, stainless steel, or concrete come into play, along with minimalistic forms and clean lines. Modern single headstones emphasize one thing above all: individuality.

Materials for Individual Headstones

Choosing the right material for an individual headstone is of utmost importance: It affects the aesthetic, durability, and expressiveness of the memorial.

Limestone Headstones: Nature and Authenticity

Limestone headstones stand out for their unique naturalness and authenticity. Their gentle appearance has a calming effect and connects one with nature. Limestone is often appreciated for its warm hues and fine textures. Notably, limestone is quarried in Germany, which makes it both sustainable and affordability-friendly.

Sandstone Headstones: Beauty for Eternity

Sandstone is renowned for its timeless beauty - it is perfect for artful engravings and intricate details. Its gentle color shades and soft texture give the headstone a special elegance. Sandstone is also quarried in Germany - another significant advantage.

Individual Headstones in Basalt: Durability and Expressiveness

Basalt headstones are renowned for their durability and expressiveness. This dark stone is often paired with minimalist designs and clean lines, giving it a particularly elegant appearance. Another advantage: Basalt withstands the elements with ease.

Individual Headstones in Marble: Elegance and Individuality

Marble is a symbol of elegance and sophistication. Its smooth texture and varied colorations make marble a popular choice for intricate engravings and individuality. Each marble stone is unique - as individual as the person it commemorates.

Individual Headstones in Granite: Timelessness and Longevity

Granite is celebrated for its timelessness and longevity. This robust stone is highly resistant to weathering and maintains its glossy surface for many years. The variety of colors and patterns in granite allows for personalized designs.

Individual Headstones: Costs

Material

The material costs for an individual headstone can vary significantly and depend on various factors. The enclosure per burial site, which forms the frame of the grave and enhances its individuality, ranges in price from €2000 to €2800. Both the material costs and installation effort must be considered - the enclosure makes up a large part of the overall appearance.

The costs for the gravestone plate can range from €300 to €2000. The choice of material plays a crucial role: For instance, granite is more expensive than basalt. Sandstone and limestone are particularly affordable options. Marble, on the other hand, is one of the more expensive alternatives.

The costs for the various materials depend on their availability and processing methods. Specific prices are hard to pinpoint due to the wide array of choices - they generally fall within the aforementioned ranges.

An affordable alternative: The boulder. Boulders are natural and unique stones that require minimal machining. This usually results in lower costs compared to conventional headstone models. If you are looking for a natural and distinctive headstone, a boulder might be the perfect choice.

Inscription

The costs for inscribing an individual headstone can vary depending on the extent and type of inscription. In the funeral industry, it is common to charge by the number of characters. However, not with us.

We offer transparent and flat-rate pricing for the names and dates engraved on the memorial stone. This rate includes the engraving of basic information such as names, birth and death dates.

If special inscription elements such as raised lettering, custom images, personal phrases, or non-Latin scripts are desired, we calculate individually. For calculations within this scope, we charge a flat fee of €350. This allows us to offer transparent pricing that meets individual needs and wishes.

Transport & Installation

The costs for transport and installation of an individual headstone are also highly variable: The installation of flat stones, which are laid in the grave without a foundation, typically costs around €200.

For the installation of the actual memorial stone, the costs range between €400 and €800 - the exact amount depends on factors such as the type of grave and the surface area.

The costs for installing the enclosure are similar.

Additional elements such as ornaments, holy water basins, vases, lanterns, or bowls can also be installed. This can cost between €120 and €440 depending on the material and design.

A particularly timeless and unique design option: the Messerschmidt Original Stainless Steel Line. Our weather-resistant and timeless elements cost between €120 and €440 and are a highlight for any grave. We are happy to advise you!

Individual Grave Design: Ideas for Personal Memories

Designing an individual grave offers the opportunity to create a very special memory of the deceased that provides comfort over time and keeps the memory alive.

Individual Grave Design with Gravel

The use of gravel creates a natural tranquillity and aesthetic. Gravel areas can be arranged in different colors and patterns - entirely according to personal preferences. Combined with green areas or decorative elements, this creates a harmonious overall picture that emphasizes the connection to nature.

Individual Grave Design with Stones

Stones, arranged uniquely, emphasize the significance of the headstone. They can be arranged in shapes like hearts, as initials of the deceased, or in creative patterns. A simple yet personal design element.

Dimensions and Size of the Individual Grave

The choice of dimensions and size of the individual grave plays a crucial role in the design. Larger areas provide space for additional elements like flowers, ornaments, or seating. Smaller graves, on the other hand, can gain a personal touch with intentional planting and careful placement of mementos.
